What to Expect at a Class

The meditation classes are open to everyone and ideal for beginners. Each class includes simple guided meditations and an informal talk about meditation and Buddhism. The classes are designed to be self-contained, so you can drop in whenever is convenient for you. There is a facility fee of £4.50 per class. This is to cover the hire of venues, publicity, and to pay for travel costs.

Course: Transform Yor Life (Buddhist Meditations for Inner Freedom)

All classes are based on the book Transform your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. By following the practical advice given in this book we can transform our mind and life, fulfil our human potential, and find everlasting peace and happiness.

  • 4th/ 5th June - Inner Peace

  • 18th/ 19th June - Reincarnation
  • 25th/ 26th June - Death
  • 2nd/ 3rd July - Karma
  • 9th/ 10th July - Our Human Life

Course: A Good Heart (Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times)

All classes are based on the book Universal Compassion by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Ancient meditative techniques that have been tried and tested for centuries are brought alive and made relevant for our everyday experiences.

27th October - 9th November - Term Break

Course: Transforming Adversity

  • 19th/ 20th November - How to Act in the Face of Adversity
  • 26th/ 27th November - Successfully Training our Mind
  • 3rd/ 4th December - Dying Joyfully
  • 10th/ 11th December - Signs of Progress

Friday Lunchtime Meditation

Besides the meditation classes mentioned above, Akshobya Centre also offers the very popular Friday Lunchtime Meditation. Stop the week and unwind with meditation followed by an optional vegetarian lunch with friends in our World Peace café.

The Friday Lunchtime Meditation is every Friday in term time, 1pm - 2pm. Costs are £2, (lunch not included).
